Edward Paul Sheringham MBE, known as Teddy Sheringham, enjoyed a distinguished 24-year career as a forward, primarily excelling as a second striker. His football journey saw him representing top clubs such as Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Portsmouth, West Ham United, and Colchester United. Sheringham earned 51 caps for England, scoring 11 goals, and played in the 1998 and 2002 FIFA World Cups, as well as the 1996 UEFA European Championship.
Sheringham began his professional career at Millwall, where he became the club's second all-time leading scorer with 111 goals. His move to Nottingham Forest led to him scoring the club's first-ever Premier League goal. A subsequent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur saw him establishing himself as a prolific scorer before joining Manchester United, where he was instrumental in the club’s historic treble in 1999, scoring a crucial equaliser and providing the assist for the winning goal in the UEFA Champions League final.
During his tenure at Manchester United, Sheringham won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, the Intercontinental Cup, and the FA Charity Shield. His individual excellence was recognised in 2001 when he was named PFA Players' Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year.
Following his time at Manchester United, Sheringham returned to Tottenham Hotspur, played for Portsmouth, and later joined West Ham United, helping them gain promotion and appearing in the 2006 FA Cup final. His career concluded with a stint at Colchester United, retiring at the age of 42 as the Premier League’s oldest outfield player and scorer.
Post-retirement, Sheringham transitioned into management, taking roles at Stevenage and ATK in the Indian Super League.
